Oink and more....

Hello all. It's been an interesting third day on call in Texas. The heat has been insane and promises to continue throughout the next week. I have three more nights on call including the rest of tonight. The day began with work and the day continued with my first pig "almost" C-section in the hot afternoon, in a barn and yet again "IN" a farrowing crate with a 400# porcine creature and only one little wiggling piglet. Let me tell you that incising 8 inches of belly fat on a pig in the hundred degree heat in order to even get to the abdominal wall is quite the feat. All's well that end's well -- except that we got no more live piglets and because of this the outcome for piggy mama wasn't a favorable one - owner preference. Bacon.

Yesterday I met Reese Witherspoon. Well, I swear, she looked just like her -- only a few years older and with a little less chin. And she was so NICE! She has horses and a beautiful piece of property. I loved that call - except when I bent down to lift up the horse's left hindlimb to hoof test it, etc.... and after a few minutes of crouching down and holding the horse up I tried to get up and talk and I was totally out of breath in the 102 degrees. It was amusing, I'm sure. I almost needed a rescue inhaler!

It's ten o'clock pm. Do you know where your children are? Just kidding. I always wanted to say that. Ten o'clock pm is my wilting time. Tomorrow is Sunday but who knows when the phone might rouse me from peaceful sleep. So, off I go.
