Mass in Chicago
On Sunday we went to mass and listened to our priest (who is dynamic and entertaining and just all around wonderful) tell the story of presiding at his cousin's wedding in Chicago last Saturday night. They all went to mass on Sunday,. the day after the wedding, and here is what he said:
"I was in this big church in Chicago and I was trying really hard to concentrate on mass, but what I really kept thinking was .....if this were my church I'd knock out that wall right there and make a bigger sanctuary. Where is the marble people? An alter should be an alter! This is just not right. I can't wait to get back to my parish in Oklahoma."
I got a big kick out of it. It's so nice to end a wonderful mass with a laugh. It reminds me of the time we all went to mass in Santa Fe when we were out there for our wedding. What a treat! To go to mass with friends and family in one of the oldest cathedrals - a very. neat. experience. I will never forget it.
