Official Research
I found this draft sitting inconspicuously in my folder. It's from about 3 years ago. It makes me want to grill chicken. Since this time we have gotten a Traeger pellet grill. It is oh so yummy. Good research has to be repeatable. Darn. I guess I need to get some more chicken.
Here goes:
You know how much I love research. And, I never get to do it anymore. So, I devised my own experiment. We are having company over this weekend for a combined birthday/Father's Day extravaganza. There will be decorations, warm weather, and smoked chicken. Yes, smoked chicken.
In order to pull this amazing smoked chicken feat, I have employed a smoker (duh!) and Williams-Sonoma. Isn't it just so sweet of them to help?
Today, I am taking two WS rubs and doing a study to make sure 1) they are both edible and delicious 2) to see which one I like the best for future buying experiences. See, what a scientific and thorough study this is! I realize that it's not a double blind study. That is has no placebo. That n=4 is not appropriate for a reasonably well put together study. But this is chicken, people!
Here's how it goes.
Rub #1: WS Chipotle Spicy Rub - includes smoky chipotle chilies, brown sugar, roasted garlic, and classic spices including oregano, cumin, and coriander.
Rub #2: WS Smokehouse Rub - includes Pacific sea salt (so much better than Atlantic), Pacific Northwest applewood, imported thyme and sage, and brown sugar.
And I will do the taste test. I know you are anxiously awaiting the results. I can give you a hint.....
nah, never mind. Here are the results:
Test #1: The smell test.
Results: Rub #2 smells better. (So scientific! I know you are marveling at my research skills! That statistics for experimenters is really paying off!)
Test #2: The sight test.
Results: Rub #1 looks prettier after grilled due to the lovely red-orange color of the spices.
Test #3: The taste test.
Results: Rub #2 tastes better. Yes, I am the only judge. Yes, that is impartial and the results are less than objective. Oh well, that's the way it goes. I'll ask my husband what he thinks later.
