All The Pretty Horses
I'm almost done with Cormac McCarthy's "All The Pretty Horses." I have really enjoyed it much more than I'd originally thought. Although I'm sadly lacking in my knowledge of Spanish, a pretty good portion of the book is in Spanish. Let's just say that sometimes I can figure it out but mostly I have no idea what is going on! Other than the prison part - I have loved the imagery, the horses, and the cowboys. I should be done this weekend.
And speaking of pretty horses and Spanish....I did a standing flank cryptorchidectomy (aka took an undescended testicle out of the side of a horse) on a pretty, pretty buckskin yesterday. It almost made me sad but he was quite the handful. He will be an excellent horse now. I wish he were mine. His owner no habla ingles. I should have asked to buy him. But I had a hard enough time trying to say "no testicles" in Spanish after I layed him down and palpated his flanks to no avail. No huevos? Wait, that's eggs. No testiclees? I don't think that's right. Oh dear. How do you get that point across??? It won't be a conversation I'll soon forget.
