Gonna Be a Texan

Well I'm sure you can tell by the infrequency of posts lately that something big has been going on. I got a job offer in the Lonestar State and have been in a whirlwind of activity - first debating on taking it and then trying to find an apartment and packing and so on and so forth. And, it seems to get a Texas veterinary license you must cut off your head, spin around in circles and then send a cashier's check (no personal checks accepted) to some person in Austin on Guadalupe street as well as submit everything you've ever done, said, or thought about since you were three years of age, in writing, in chronological order and have references to those things, your citizenship and 45 letters from the other states you are licensed in, as well as, accreditation from the USDA in said states. Despite that I also found that I must get a provisional license (temporary license) until I'm deemed good enough to wait until August or October to take the real test. Did I mention there's a test for the provisional license too? Trips to Austin are in my future.

So, I'm planning on moving this July. And my lovely rendition of my trip to Tennessee will probably have to be put on hold for a while until I can find my stuff, my mind, my way to the grocery store in a new city and some more cell phone minutes to call Kyle who is an extra hour away now (actually we have mobile to mobile calling so I don't have to worry about that.) My mom thinks I'll never come home again since I'll be living in this new country (Texas) and really it's only 3 hours away -- a short drive for someone who is in a long-term relationship with someone 4.5 hours away - now 5.5.

I'm looking forward to settling in and to the Starbucks that I know will be close. I'm trying to plan the floor plan of the apartment with all my furniture constantly. I even see it in my sleep. Much filtering of belongings is going to be done and my dad will be thrilled that, once again, some of my cherished items will be finding a home in his barn for a while. I mean, geez, it's not like they take up as much room as the kubota! And besides it's just another reason they can come visit, you know, to bring me stuff.

So, if I'm seemingly standoffish for not posting often, please bear with me for a few weeks while I get myself in order and deal with my anxiety of once again uprooting my life and moving to a new state. Also, I hear I have to stand in line for what is literally a few days to register and get a license and tag with the DPS down there. That will be another of life's annoying challenges.

I'll be in touch! See ya'll later...

  1. Texas??? What's wrong with Arkansas? I can't believe you have to go through all that to work there. Good luck getting all your ducks in a row!
