Tornado Alley
Here are a few pictures from our neighborhood's damage. Thankfully the 2.6 mile F5 that hit El Reno sucked back up into the sky before it took out Yukon/Mustang. If it hadn't, our home would be gone instead of just having some roof damage. I feel every emotion for our fellow Oklahoman's who lost their homes or their lives either last Friday or a couple of weeks ago.
We do not have an underground shelter. We knew the tornados were coming so we left early - before all the traffic gridlocks. We loaded up the dogs and a few necessities and headed south to Blanchard. Unfortunately, my in-laws just sold their house with tornado shelter in Blanchard (just our luck). We sat in Blanchard and listened as the biggest tornado known the in U.S. moved straight for our town and our house, our friends and our family, our church. If it had not lifted, we would be mourning great losses. We decided it would be a long night and stopped in Mazzio's to watch the radar on TV. The weather worsened in Blanchard as the storms shifted south and we went further south to Dibble when the school shelter personnel wouldn't let us take our pets into the shelter with us. I mean, I get it--but was unable to leave StewdyBaker and Rambo to blow away.
When the storms had finally receded Friday night, we tried to get back to our home to see if it was standing and flooding prevented us from getting close. When we finally got home to survey the damage, we were blessed to find our house standing with just some roof damage and some damaged patio furniture. Our fence was intact due to the steel poles but most of our neighbors' fences, many of their garage doors, most of their roofs, were damaged. Just a 1/2 mile south power poles were sheared halfway up, power lines were tossed over roads, houses, and cars. Roads were covered with feet of water leaving cars stranded, floating and stalled as drivers made the wrong decision about driving through them. They were forced to climb out their windows and leave the cars.
We were without power for about four days.
Here are a few pictures from damage around our neighborhood and a few miles over on Meridian. I hope to get more from around our town and share them also.
