Chronicals of Dr. Sexy Hair

It's not so much about how sexy my hair is or is not. It all has to do with who I am, who people know me as, and how they refer to me. Being the only woman doctor in a seven doctor practice and breaking new ground being the only veterinarian in Siloam Springs, AR to have two X chromosomes - you can imagine the stir it causes. Most people don't know my name. A lot of them can't say it or spell it even if they do know it. Some don't approve of a lady being a doctor. Some don't mind. Some actually like me. They call me, "that lady doctor," "her," or "she." Occasionally, if I don't do their exact bidding they call me much worse, but we won't go into that.

My colleagues tease me about the things I get called and about peoples' reactions to a woman veterinarian. They write "HER" on my water bottle and such. Recently one of the girls that works in the front (who has her nail license) got me some hairspray to try -- the brand being "sexy hair." You can imagine the commotion this caused among the men. They decided I should be called "Dr. Sexy Hair." And then I cut it all off.
