Tales O' Meringue
Kyle likes banana pudding. A long, long time ago in a far away land I made him Paula Deen's Banana pudding recipe. It was my first attempt at creating such a light and airy mixture. I put all the ingredients together and fashioned a double boiler to cook it....
I formed the stiff peaks by whipping the mixture in my beloved Kitchen Aid mixer. Man, I love that thing. When there's a tornado warning...I take it with me into the utility room and take cover.
It was delightful. I baked it above layers of freshly cut bananas, vanilla wafers, and pudding until the little peaks turned brown with gooey golden-ness (yes, that's a word).
Isn't it beautiful. Well, it was beautiful until I covered it and put it in the refrigerator. The next day when Kyle arrived, the meringue had contracted and almost dissolved! It was hideous and runny and oh, so very sad. When meringue goes bad..............................

It looks really good in the picture.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to send you my Grandma's coconut cream pie recipe! I'm a disaster with meringue, so I never make it, although it's the best pie in the universe.
