So Here It Is...

It's Christmas.  Almost.  How did that happen?  This weekend was "Dickens of a Christmas" in downtown McKinney.  The weather was crisp and sunny -- and I'll post a whole nother synopsis about that.  Currently I'm sitting in jeans and a sweater on my couch, my socked feet draping off the edge of the cushion typing to the hum of the washer and dryer, the wind howling down my fireplace, and the HD version of "Four Christmases" playing.  You see, this weekend was free HBO weekend on AT&T U-verse.  I'm thinking as much as I pay for it  - it should be free every day along with the Hallmark channel that they so rudely took away.

The stockings have been hung, the mini tree adorned with ornaments from travels afar, and the majestic gold glitter deer guards the kitchen sink among Christmas votive holders.  And this is the first year in the history of me that I'm not getting a real tree.  In fact, I'm not getting a tree at all.  I know, your thinking, the world has almost come to an end when Amy is not getting a Christmas tree.  It's totally not about being a scrooge or losing the Christmas spirit.  It's really about the money and the unavailability of people to enjoy it.  I mean, I have my little 2.5 foot wonder tree.  My apartment is small and my mortgage in Arkansas and my apartment payment in Texas leave little to be left over.  So I bought 8 feet of real garland on sale for $0.99 a foot and I put it on the balcony rail on the patio outside my bedroom.  It smells wonderful and it looks very festive despite the fact it has no bows, no ribbon, no anything on it.

I'm currently pretending that the fire is roaring and beautifully lit.  I did buy 6 fire logs that burn 2 hours a piece for $20.00, therefore I'm being a little stingy about when I use them.  Haha.  I used one to burn out the wasps (just in case they were coming from the fireplace) and I used another when mom and dad were visiting this weekend.  Perhaps I'll get one of those fire DVDs (that would be a sight!!).

Here are a few photos of the decorations I have managed to throw together:

  1. Beautiful decorations, Amy! Couldn't you maybe get a very little real tree, like in "The Bishop's Wife"? I hope you and your parents had a great time.
    Love, Martha
